You know, I've been watching tennis for 40+ years and to witness the last 20 years with the Big Three has been so incredible and each has demonstrated GOAT moments. First with Fed obliterating Sampras's GS title and destroying the field before 2010 and the emergence of Rafa and Novak. Then it was Rafa emerging as the King of Clay and a French Open god and absolutely owning Federer up until 2017 winning 23 of their first 33 matches.
But through it all, Novak Djokovic never went away. He fought. He clawed. He problem solved and on January 1, 2011, he entered the year with one Grand Slam title to his name but with a determination that it was time for a new sheriff in town. Roger Federer was at the height of his powers having won SIXTEEN GS titles and Rafael Nadal was doing pretty good himself with nine.
12 years and 21 Grand Slam titles later, Novak Djokovic has obliterated most of the ATP records and he's within shouting distance of a few more:
22 GS titles - tied with Rafa for most all time
38 M1000 titles. Most all time
93 career titles - 4th all time trailing only Lendl (94), Federer (103) and Connors (109)
243 top 10 wins - most all time
.8350 is the highest winning percentage in ATP history with a record of 1043 - 26
Most weeks at number 1 with 374 and counting
Most year end number 1 finishes with 7 and counting
Although he is one of eight players in history to win all four Grand Slams including Rafa, he's the only male in history to win all four in a row on three different surfaces.
This guy is 35 and his career is supposed to be slowing down but in fact, it's just the opposite. With his win in Australia last week, he has now won 10 out of the last 18 Grand Slams since Wimbledon, 2018 and he didn't even play in two of them!
He's the only player ever to win each Grand Slam AND each M1000 event at least twice and he won a record six M1000 tournaments in the 2015 season and made the finals in the other two he entered that year!
He is tied with Rafa with 22 Grand Slams for most all time and in terms of Grand Slam finals, semi-finals and quarter-final appearances, he's about to own all those too:
GS titles - 22 tied for most all time
GS finals- 33 most all time
GS semi final appearances - only two behind Federer for most all time - 46-44
GS quarter final appearances - only four behind Federer for most all time - 58-44
He is one Wimbledon title behind Fed for most all time on the ATP trailing only 8-7 which would mean he would be the all time leader in GS titles at 2 of the 4 venues
He is also tied with Fed for most ATP Year end titles with 6
What's so extraordinary is he keeps getting better with shot-making that simply should not be possible. I've never seen a player stretch and practically do the splits on court with his regularity.
I've never seen a player slide on ALL surfaces like it's clay with such precision and purpose.
I've never seen a player produce the angles he does that seem to defy geometry and the laws of physics!"
